Description

About 550 light-years distant in the constellation of Cassiopeia lies IC 63 and IC 59.  The right side of the red emission nebula is IC 63, also known as the Ghost of Cassiopeia.  IC 59 is on the left side of the nebula with a hint of blue.  Both are being shaped by radiation from a nearby variable star, Gamma Cassiopeia, which is slowly eroding away the ghostly cloud of dust and gas. The star is 65,000 times more luminous, 19 times more massive than our Sun.  It rotates at about 1.6 million kilometers per hour, or 150 times more rapidly than our Sun.
